/S/?ARIES

NEW YORK
1964

The purpose of this summary catalogue is to present the Museum's
collection of drawings by identified Italian architects, though included
here are no more than a tenth of the Museum's total holdings in this cate-
gory. Most of the collection must remain classified as anonymous pending
further study of the various items in order to assure their correct identifi-
cation and consequential attribution. In the case of unsigned or uninscribed
drawings, only those which can be identified with relative certainty have
been included in this listing.

Drawings by identified scenic designers have also been included in
this catalogue. Although many of these artists are not architects, in the
proper sense of the term, their graphic work would seem to fall more
closely into the general category of architecture than of painting.

Where, for sake of brevity, it has been impossible to list all draw-
ings in the collection by a given draftsman, notation has been made as to
the quantity and type of other drawings also to be found in the Cooper Union
Museum. In the case of inscribed drawings, where the inscription is
considered unnecessarily long, only that portion that gives the wording of
the artist's name has been included. Measurements are in millimeters,
height preceding width. The material on which the drawing has been made
is taken to be white paper unless otherwise indicated. The only reference incl
included is The Coope r Union Museum Chronicle , Vol. 3, no. 4, September
1962, which served as the catalogue for the exhibition. The Architect's
Eye , and where fuller information is to be found concerning those drawings
included in the exhibition.
